Sometimes, the most important thing I can do for my child is talk to her. Conversation is such a powerful educational tool. It gives us the power to: Create emotional connections Tell and rephrase stories Engage in dialogue exchange Build ideas Enhance vocabulary, and Strengthen social skills. I know that as parents and educators we often look for “busy-activities”. Things we can give our kids and have them do independently, while we tend to whatever it is we need to tend to. However, we should also invest in conversations in a habitual way. Our kids and students need to know that they have our supportive ear, our care and concern and most importantly an open channel to expressContinue reading

Melissa & Doug Reusable Sticker Pad – Review & Activity Ideas
*This post contains affiliate links for convenient viewing* On a recent trip to Indigo, I spotted this Melissa & Doug Reusable Sticker Pad, and I knew I had to get it for my daughter! I was sold at the sight of the word “reusable” :D. General Thoughts As soon as we opened it up, the first thing I noticed was the quality of the pages and the stickers. They had a glossy coating, which didn’t easily tear. The best part: the stickers are not sticky! They adhere to the page and don’t fall off, BUT they can easily be peeled off and reapplied as if new. So, naturally I started thinking about how to turn thisContinue reading

Mother-Daughter Painting Activity
My daughter shows a fond interest in art. She loves all things painting, coloring, molding, etc. I really wanted to nurture that interest, and so we’ve started a new mother-daughter tradition: canvas painting. The idea is: we each get a canvas, or share one, and paint art that conveys a message or theme we’ve been talking about. We’ll display our art in my daughter’s room as a reminder of the experience we shared, and will switch up the wall displays with each new art adventure we take :). Here is our first set of canvases: The Theme/Message: We chose to have a star theme. “Reach for the stars” is the first quote that came to myContinue reading
